Major: ākonga

Notes

Refers to students who attend a (deaf) residential school as day students rather than as boarders, because they live in the area. Uncommonly used by younger signers, as residential schools have downsized. Not used for boarding pupils.

I was never a boarder at the deaf school. My family lived nearby so I was a day pupil.
